What do difficult times teach us?

“Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”  Napoleon Hill

I want my life to be full of purpose.

I want to be determined by the steps I take,

The difficult times are here,

They test us for what we are,

The storm can take us in all different directions,

Shaking the centre of our core,

Turbulence is felt and questions are asked,

Where will my footsteps take me next?

The doorway into self-discovery can be found from the tough times we have experienced. There are many valuable lessons that we can learn from when we are experiencing pain and suffering. For instance, the friends and family you can depend upon. To what your comforts are and how you are made to move beyond the boundaries that you are so familiar with.

Our boundaries are a safety mechanism that has allowed us to live in a bubble of not being completely happy and even unsatisfied. However, when you are in a personal warzone and the guns are pointed at you. You are ambushed. You have run out of ammo and you don’t know what to do next. Your heart is beating so fast in your heart that you feel that it is about to burst. The anxiety felt from within will be fuelling the cortisol levels and draining the oxytocin.

The turbulent times do not feel like they are stopping. You do not know which way to turn or where you are even going. You just want someone to hold your hand or give you a hug to tell you it will be okay. These storms are here to test our perseverance, our patience, our belief in mankind and love for ourselves and others around you. There are many different emotions that are felt from anger, grief, bafflement, disappointment, fear, hatred, jealousy, shame, and even love.

Harmony can be felt when you allow your heart and mind to be clear of the clutter around you. This is a time where you will be shaken to the core and your very existence. Your values and beliefs will be tested, challenged and even stretched out of context. Will you allow others to determine your future and create your destiny? The hardship will experience will make us one of two things a fighter or a flighter. It is easy to sink your head in the sand but then your enemy will come at you with barrels pointed straight at your head. It’s best to have your wits about you.

“When you go through life's challenges, you have the choice to either fall apart and become a victim of the circumstances, or you can rise up high and above others.”

-- Mo Seetubtim

Life’s challenges are thrown at you to either fall or become a victim. You can take the opportunity and shape it to what you want. You can create a new belief system and use the opportunity to create a new start, a new horizon will be available to us. Or we can step away from what the experience has taught us and continue to stay unhappy.

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.”

-- Brian Tracy

Our life’s journey will take us down many different avenues and it is up to us in which path we wish to take. Our attitude and the self-brand we create and try to master during the difficult time will create a lasting impact on how we move through life in every aspect. We should use the time to motivate us and make us more determined in achieving the goals we wish to succeed in. The difficult times we experience will not last forever and once they are over we will be thankful that we have experienced.
